The Biju Patnaik Airport has been awarded the status of an international airport very recently in the month of October 2013. As the sole airport functioning in the state of Odisha, this Bubaneshwar Airport has a lot of people availing it to make their journeys. It had been opened for public on 17th April 1998 and ever since has been the hub for the Air Odisha and many other leading airline companies who have flights scheduled from here to different parts of the country and abroad too. The inauguration of the new Terminal last year caters to all the domestic flights while the previous Terminal has been renovated to take care of the international flights.

The construction of the Terminal 1 had been undertaken by the Airport Authorities of India as a part of their upgrades of the non-metro airports in the country. Apart from the technical airplane related infrastructure, the terminal has at par with the other leading airports introduced services like spas and lounges which look after the comforts of the passengers. The whole look of the terminal enhances the culture of the state with motifs and decorative elements adhering to the unique features of Odisha. Built by Lanco Infratech, it has all the other amenities like gift shops, food joints, art galleries and handloom and handicraft shops to keep the travelers engaged while they wait for their flights. The Terminal 2 of the Biju Patnaik Airport is to look after the passengers’ departure to the Middle East and South Asia.
